Five Signs You Should Talk to Your Doctor About Prostate Health

One of the biggest misconceptions about prostate cancer is that symptoms always appear early.  In reality, many men with early-stage prostate cancer experience no symptoms at all.  That’s why regular conversations with your healthcare provider and appropriate PSA screening are so important.

Still, there are several symptoms you should never ignore.

1. Frequent urination, especially at night

2. Difficulty starting or stopping urination

3. Weak urine flow

4. Blood in the urine or semen

5. Persistent pain in the hips, pelvis, or lower back

These symptoms don’t automatically mean prostate cancer. Many are caused by benign prostate enlargement or other conditions. However, they deserve medical evaluation.

Don’t Wait for Symptoms

The goal of screening is to detect prostate cancer before symptoms ever develop.  Talk with your physician about whether PSA screening is right for you based on your age, family history, and overall health. The earlier prostate cancer is found, the better the chances for successful treatment.
